The Vagabond Opera, launched by former opera tenor Eric Stern, chuckles at tradition by pairing glorious voices with avant garde staging and a pot pourri of klezmer, gypsy music, jazz. punk and ethnic melodies. The concept works, as evidenced by the troupe’s enthusiastic reception on NPR, in the serious concert hall, on cross-country tours and wherever audiences are eager for fun.
